After a wildly successful Kickstarter between August and September of this year, Greg Lobanov‘s latest creation, initially dubbed Drawdog, was ready for center stage. Chicory: A Colorful Tale was a playable demo for The Game Awards’s pilot program The Game Festival this December, revealing to the gaming community a world full of wonder, warmth, and feels–exactly what you’d expect from Greg Lobanov, solo developer behind indie darling Wandersong. Says Chicory: A Colorful Tale of itself:
“You’re a dog wielding a magic brush! Use painting powers to explore, solve puzzles and make friends in this top-town adventure game. From creators on Wandersong + Celeste.”
Lobanov’s 2018 Wandersong wooed players with its ineffable, effortless charisma. It was “a game about feelings,” and it played hearts to its internal tune with a sensitive ease. Chicory: A Colorful Tale heralds the next chapter for Lobanov and features music from Lena Raine of Celeste fame, as well as other new talent. There’s no release date yet–not even a year–for Chicory: A Colorful Tale, but it is currently slated for a PC release only, with console launches yet to be announced.
