“Blink, and you’ll miss it.” Today, it’s an idiom companies flaunt when sales of meaningless goods are paraded before our eyes. But while this capitalist parade may be one of the flashiest, a multitude of smaller, infinitely more precious processions are constantly happening around us. Before Your Eyes is GoodbyeWorld Games‘s category-evolving project released on April 8, and its foundation is built on that basic idea–blinking. The Los Angeles-based studio describes the game with the following:
“Embark on an emotional first-person narrative adventure where you control the story—and affect its outcomes—with your real-life blinks. With this innovative technique you will fully immerse yourself in a world of memories, both joyous and heartbreaking, as your whole life flashes before your eyes.”
The trick is in the webcam. Before Your Eyes features a blink-interaction mechanic that’s controlled by your actual eyes. As long as you let your webcam work its magic, you’ll have the opportunity to experience another person’s lifelong journey in a way that’s simply revolutionary. Before Your Eyes has been out for a little over a month, and since its release, it’s developed an enthusiastic following that touts the brilliance of its storytelling and innovation. Before Your Eyes is out now for PC only.
