South Korean Rootless Studio hones in on the horror of purgatory in their upcoming metroidvania, illustrating one girl’s struggle against death in a hand-drawn, 2D style. 8Doors: Arum’s Afterlife Adventure is described thus:
“8Doors is Metroidvania style 2D action platformer game based on Korean afterlife world view. Explore 8 different area of purgatory by becoming the main character ‘Arum’. Solve the mystery of happening on purgatory through fight against the specter and lead fugitive souls to the right path.”
Eight levels of purgatory await, and the 8Doors: Arum’s Afterlife Adventure Prologue demo provides a glimpse of what’s to come. Play as Arum, a live girl in search of her dead father. Rescue hopeless souls, defeat malicious ones, and challenge wraithlike bosses who stand in your way. 8Doors: Arum’s Afterlife Adventure is slated for a PC release in early 2021.
