It’s not often you see the words “pinball,” “dungeon,” and “hack-and-slash” greeting one another in the same sentence– even less often do you see these words joined together to ultimately describe the same thing. Come summer 2019, these descriptors weave together into one fascinating release: Creature in the Well. Currently in development by Flight School Studio, Creature in the Well makes use of a pinball-style mechanic in a world seething with danger. As the Montréal-based Flight School Studio tells it:
“Creature in the Well is a top down pinball inspired hack and slash dungeon crawler. As the last remaining BOT-C unit, venture deep into a desert mountain to restore power to an ancient facility, haunted by a desperate Creature. Uncover and upgrade powerful gear in order to save the city of Mirage from a deadly sandstorm.”
Creature in the Well snags the attention with its unusual blend of mechanical elements, but it holds the attention with its striking visual style. Creature in the Well is planned for a summer release on Steam and Switch, and only time will tell just what sort of macabre monster it’s harboring in its depths.
