Cel-shading as the basis of a game’s aesthetic is an uncommon practice in the industry. Titles like Borderlands, Viewtiful Joe, and Jet Set Radio have most notably pioneered and mastered the technique, bringing a visual experience to the fore that held players rapt and begging for more. Meet Sable, one of the latest to rest its weight on the cel-shaded style in the hopes of enchanting and wooing audiences. In development by London-based studio Shedworks, Sable describes itself thus:
“Sable is a coming-of-age tale of discovery through exploration across a strikingly rendered open world desert. Go on a deeply personal journey across an alien planet while learning its history and discovering Sable’s place in the world.”
Sable promises a panorama of exploration, woven throughout with a story of discovery and intrigue. Play as Sable as she maneuvers her way through unfamiliar lands, encountering new people, new lessons, and new tales to be told in their turn. Sable has no launch date as of yet, other than a general “2019,” and is currently slated for a Steam release at the least.
