Luchador Juan Aguacate Is a Little…Older in Upcoming Guacamelee! 2

Ah, Guacamelee!. How many delightful hours we spent smashing foes and barrels, Rooster Uppercutting our way through levels and bosses, and simply enjoying the incredibly beautiful backdrops and music, no one can say for certain (except… well, our consoles). Guacamelee! came out a whopping five years ago, in April of 2013, and for too many years we’ve been left to wonder wistfully about whether or not we’d ever see a sequel.

We’re getting a sequel. Guacamelee! 2 is coming out on August 21, 2018, only a few overly-long weeks away. DrinkBox Studios knows just how long we’ve waited, and isn’t shy about referencing the time difference immediately, according to the trailers. How so? In the trailers, our favorite luchador Juan Aguacate is a little… older. Once a dashing young man sporting a great variety of impressive costumes and a set of even more impressive pecs, Juan Aguacate is now shown as a middle-aged husband balancing a bowl of guacamole on his belly, and being hollered at by his wife.

Since the trailer also shows Juan as the luchador we remember, we can expect some sort of seriously magical transformation to take place before the game’s end. Regardless, seeing Juan as a henpecked husband who’s developed the distinctly-Dad habit of using one’s own belly as a tray table is hysterical, and a nice throwback to the amount of time that’s actually elapsed between the first installment and the second.

Guacamelee! 2 will be available on Steam and PS4, and promises “full 4-player co-op, fancy new wrestling moves, sassy new bosses, twice the enemies, and 300% more chickens!” If you’re not excited, you should be. It’s time to save the Mexiverse once again, chicken Illuminati possibly included.
